So I saw all the amazing reviews on this! But I only have one part of my hair dyed so I did that last to be safe, and the rest of my hair is in dyed. Not to mention I left in for very little time to avoid the risk of damage. Well my hair came out looking like electrified straw... I'm just sad I was so hyped for this
the cheap one I used years ago when I tried this, was more gentle, just smelled nasty.

This is a professional strength product offered to be used at home. Caution must be used to achieve the best results. Base your scalp, ears and hairline with a product in addition to the one that is offered by Phyto Specific. Definitely do not exceed the straightening time advised by the manufacturer. Thoroughly shampoo and rinse out all product residue, then repeat that process. The follow-up conditioner for this product is the best in the hair business. Leave it in for longer than recommended and cover with a plastic bag. If straightener is used properly your hair will be straight enough air dry. I would definitely purchase this product again and again and again!

The lid of the base cream was loose (practically off) and the cream was solid and hard. I bought this from the ULTA store, so I am going to exchange, but this is annoying for such an expensive product. I read online, that other people have had this issue as well.

                  Hello,
The Phytorelaxer can only be applied to new growth without overlapping the demarcation line.

                  Thank you,

              • Q:

Q1: I just need clarification. So the Phytorelaxer should not be used on any color treated hair regardless of how long ago the hair was colored?

Q2: If the Phytorelaxer was used prior to color application and now the person colors their hair (72 hours to 2 weeks later), does that mean during the retouch/2nd application the person/purchaser will be unable to use the remains of the product because now their hair is color treated even if it's 4 months later the initial application?

                  A:

Q1: A relaxer cannot be used on hair that has been colored two levels or more lighter than the natural color and can never be applied to bleached hair.

Q2: You can definitely relax the hair BEFORE coloring--- wait 5-7 days the color AFTER that. Just remember you can never run a relaxer over previously relaxed, bleached or colored hair. It must be applied to the regrowth only following the retouch application protocols. Be careful not to overlap the demarcation line from where the hair was previously colored.

I have a question about the timing. I use this on my son's short hair. ( I get two straightening out of the product.) Is the smoothing an active process or can you simple smooth once and leave it for the length of time indicated if it stays smooth with product on it? Because his hair is short, it doesn't take very long to smooth but I think the product needs to remain on longer.

                  Response from Phyto:

"Straightening process time is different for everyone; the straightening cream recommendation is 7- 28 minutes before the rinsing step, then the neutralizing process with the neutralizing emulsion.

It is important to follow the protocols in the Phytorelaxer; timing is quite individual. The protocols in the box will assist in proper timing AFTER a strand test is performed.

Once the application is complete and the desired straightening effect is achieved according to the proper timing, it is then that you can proceed to the rinsing and neutralizing process."

Please follow the full protocol of the Phytorelaxer instructions and all that is included in the kit - it's best to use the INCLUDED Phyto Specific Milky Reconstructor because it is a non-rigid protein treatment that works best after an alkali process and is created for completion of the Phytorelaxers.

All of Phyto and Phyto Specific Shampoos are safe for any type of relaxer or chemical process on the hair, as they do not use a chemical surfactant; they use a coconut oil derived cleansing base.

We recommend to use the Phyto Specific Shampoos and Masks, specifically the Ultra Smoothing Shampoo and Mask to maintain the hair.

We recommend to wait at least 5 to 10 days after a relaxer to do any permanent color process on the hair after a Phytorelaxer - no matter what index it is. If you are using a semi permanent that's ammonia free, those options can be used more readily, but we still recommend waiting at least 72 hours unless your hair is being professionally done and you're using a hair color that does not contain accelerant or ammonia.

We reached out to Phyto directly to obtain more information. We hope this helps, but if you choose to use the Phyto Specific Phytorelaxer Index 2, we definitely recommend performing a strand test in a discreet area to ensure it has no adverse effect on your hair. You may wish to also consult your hair stylist for his or her professional advise prior to use. Here is the information that Phyto provided:

"Our Phytorelaxers are NOT compatible with metallic dye or Henna type colorants. Our only concern is that most of the 'rinses' that many are using on their hair are metallic dyes. Also, please keep in mind, one cannot overlap the demarcation line for any type of relaxer service; one could actually use the rinse color one week after the relaxer, but not in the opposite order."
