Comments about Garnier Olia Brilliant Color:

So I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this product. I usually go to a salon to get my hair dyed out of fear of box dye making it unhealthy, but when I read the reviews on this I knew I had to try it. First, it was super easy to apply and it felt like I was getting an oil treatment as it sat on my head. As others have said, there isn't the harsh smell that's associated with usual dyes. The color is beautiful and looks natural (I used 4.0 and I'm dark brown to begin with) while also adding a little depth to the color. With that being said, I hated it for the first week and half. I usually wash my hair every two days and I just could't do that with this dye because my hair was shiny to the point of looking super greasy. I would shampoo it everyday with two different shampoos just to get it to dull down a bit. Now that it's been about a month, I love this color! It's no longer oily or greasy looking - it has a nice natural shine. I got my hair cut about a week before I dyed it and between the combination of that, Olia dye, and deep conditioning once a week (I use a straightener or curler everyday, but don't blowdry), my hair has seriously sprouted out at least an inch. If you can get past the initial greasiness and be patient as it dulls down a bit, I would definitely recommend this product. I would use it again even knowing the downside!

This product colored my hair well and left it super soft. I love that it has no ammonia!

From reading reviews if you already have thin, oily, or lifeless hair this may not be the best product for you, though in reading those reviews all I can think is "really? You thought an oil-based color was the right product for you?!" Still, a friendly heads up.

                        A:

Permanent hair color does not make hair oily. You may not need to shampoo as frequently when you color the hair but you will never have to shampoo more frequently.

                    • Q:

Can you mix two different shades together? I have stubborn gray roots so I use a medium brown to cover but a little bit too dark for the rest of my hair. What would you suggest? I was thinking about using a golden warm brown for the rest of my hair. I'm 60 year old so I don't want that solid brown color.Thank you

                        A:

While you can't physically mix 2 shades into one developer bottle, if you want to use a medium brown on the roots and a light brown in the last 10 minutes of your timing to refresh the color on the previously dyed hair, that's fine. If you go that route, mix up both colors at the same time and leave the top off the developer bottle of the light brown until its time to refresh the color on the ends of the hair. This will keep the mixture from over heating in the bottle.

                    • Q:

I recently purchased at my Local Ulta store, Garnier Olia 6.43 Light Natural Auburn hair color. I am now trying to order the same color from Ulta.com, However, although the graphics show this color as 6.43 Light Natural Auburn, when I try to add it to my order, the color shows as 6.35 Light Natural Auburn. Why is there a difference in the color number, but not in the color name? Which is correct. How do both colors compare?

                        A:

Hello Claire! The 6.43 is the Light Natural Auburn. The 6.35 is the Light Chestnut Brown. The 6.35 Light Chestnut Brown has been discontinued. The difference between the colors is that the 6.43 has copper and gold undertones in it and the 6.35 had gold and mahogany in the product.
