Used this product for years off & on. My hair is dark brown. Works great if you want to cover gray hair and add subtle highlights. Went to several salons over the years but it's so expensive with all the follow-up visits when your hair starts turning gray faster.

Comments about L'Oréal Multi-Tonal Color System:

Color 8.2 used to be my go-to when I didn't want to pay to get my hair done at a salon. It is very difficult to color your hair at home when you're a blonde and it used to work great. For some reason now the highlights are very brassy. I was able to tone it down a lot with purple shampoo but I'm not happy with how it turned out. You also have to be very careful that the highlights don't clump. I don't think I will try to color my hair at home every again.

Hello! We do not have a light blonde shade in our Couleur Experte line. The closest would be 8.0 Medium Blonde Toasted Coconut, which is a shade darker than the 9 Natural Blonde. If you want to put highlights on top of your 9 Natural Blonde, we recommend checking out our Touch-On Highlights in H90 Iced Champagne!

I wanna use the Carmel glaze 5, but I've been getting my hair colored professionally and my self ( smudge bolliage). I last used the L'Oréal Bold Browns 7 Chocolate on the roots and t14 toner after. I have about a quarter of an inch outgrowth but I think the level 7 was to dark, because I'd like to go more blonde a long time from now. If I go from a level 7 to 5 (just on the darker balliage) will I get hot roots became the color is to light

My hair has a lot of white and I color with light ash brown as my hair tends to pull red. I previously had very light blond highlights which are mostly gone now. Would I be able to get these results using 6.1 French Eclair? I don't want the highlights to be red.

                      A:

Couleur Experte 6.1 (French Eclair) is a light ash brown, however if you are predominantly grey we would suggest a 6.0 light brown shade. You should not pull any red tones if you are within 2 shades of your natural hair color. The highlights in this product will lighten the hair in the areas it is applied, leaving it a lighter tone.

                      A:

Hi Mrs. Bartram! If you have dark brown color-treated hair, the closest neutral shade we have in our Couleur Experte line is 5.0 Caramel Glaze. It will give you a medium brown base color and caramel highlights. You should perform a strand test to see how long it takes the highlights to lift to a caramel shade. We do not recommend leaving the highlights on for more than 25 minutes. We hope this will work for you!

I have bleached hair that I don't love. I used this product many times prior to getting my hair bleached at the salon. This toasted coconut is closer to my natural color. Can I use this on bleached hair? My hair is turning a little yellow and I don't like this upkeep. I want to go back to using L'Oréal.

Hi Liz! As long as it has been at least 2 weeks since you bleached, your hair is in good condition, and your hair has warm yellow tones in it, you can use Couleur Experte 8.0 Toasted Coconut. If your hair is a very pale yellow, almost white, you must use a filler to put the warmth back in your hair so you do not discolor. You can get that done at The Salon at Ulta Beauty!

Hi! I normally use Vanilla Icing (maybe 7.1), and that is about the color my hair is naturally, but in the summer, my hair gets a lighter with the sun. Should I use Ice Meringue? I want to keep the cool look, or should I just use another ash blonde color from Preference and just do the highlights? I don't want any noticeable change. Thanks!

                      A:

Hi! If you would like to go one shade lighter for the summer you may want to consider using shade #8.1 Iced Meringue, this will have similar cool and iridescent tones! Since this shade is only one level lighter than what you've been using it should not be a dramatic change! You may always do a strand test first as well to preview what your results will be! Since you like using cooler shades you may want to check out our EverPure Blonde Shampoo as well! This is our anti-brass shampoo that will neutralize any warm tones in the hair! We hope this information is helpful!

Hi Mary! Thanks for asking about Couleur Experte. The most similar haircolor to the Couleur Experte would actually depend on your percentage of gray. If you have less than 25% gray you can use Superior Preference (http://tinyurl.com/lqj542z), but if you have more than 25% gray we would recommend using Excellence Creme (http://tinyurl.com/ka7fulo).

If not can I mix the 2 boxes together to make a bigger batch? Thanks!

Hi Tricia! If you have very long and curly hair, you may want to consider getting 2 or 3 boxes, just to be safe! If your hair is thick, you may need all 3 boxes. You would use one kit at a time, preparing a new one when you run out of your current mixture. We hope this helps!
