I used to use very cheap curling irons that were quite damaging to my hair. This product allows for multiple heat settings and curls great. I have noticed that if it is not curling great, you actually might need a hair cut. I know that sounds weird, but a stylist suggested it after purchasing, and it made a world of difference. We used this as a back up on my wedding day to keep all of my girls curls tight. Love this product.

I have very thick hair. I wanted an appliance that would curl my extremely thick, very straight hair and stay hot throughout. This product works well. I'm glad I bought the ceramic instead of the gold because I think it will damage my hair less.

                          • Q:

I have very fine, thin, color treated hair that has some heat damage. My hair is maybe two inches below my shoulders. I've had trouble finding a curling iron that will hold curl in my hair without completely frying it (I'm careful). I wanted to know if the tourmaline (purple) or the Nanoceramic curling iron would be better for my hair. Also, which size barrel should I get for large but defined curls?

                              A:

If you have fine, color treated hair you will want to use either the ceramic tourmaline (purple barrel) or Nano-ceramic (Black and White) because Ceramic can be gentler on the hair because they heat the hair follicle from the inside out rather than applying heat from the outside. Remember that heat is damaging to one's hair and you'll look to have the least amount of heat that still will curl/style the hair effectively. Try it first at < 300 degrees to see how effective it is at that temperature. We recommend based on your hair length that you try the 1" or even 1 1/4" to get large defined curls.

Do all (nanoceramic, ceramic tourmaline, and gold plated) curling irons have the same results of curls? I have thin, long, but not a lot of hair. Curls don't last on my hair, so I would like to buy one that has long lasting, but as well and smooth and shiny curls.

Honestly they do have the same results. All of it is dependent upon the temperature of the iron and the texture of your hair. We'd suggest using a hold spray to help the curls last on your hair. The gold curling irons are the industry standard and are in use by more stylists than any other curling irons. We suggest you start there unless your hair is damaged by heat or chemicals now, if which case we'd suggest you try the NanoCeramic curling irons.

Yes, replacement springs may be ordered directly from Hot Tools. Their contact info can be found within the product manual that comes with this curling iron.

The larger the barrel, the looser the curl! Since you have such long hair, try the 1-1/2" model. Ceramic Tourmaline helps to infuse hair with moisture and shine, so it is a great option for damaged, distressed, or over-processed hair. This is the option we'd suggest for you based on your description of your hair.
