Comments about Hot Tools CeramicTI Tourmaline Curling Iron:

I purchased the 2" barrel and have long, medium thick, healthy hair. Though my hair curls well, I need to add product like many others in order for the curl to stay. I'd expected this largest barrel to give the result of a blowout with nice bend at the ends. With lots and lots of product, and multiple passes, it does. But, I can't get it to stay. I had better success achieving this look with a good round brush and ionic dryer with cold shot button.

This is a decent solution if you're patient and did not blow dry your hair, but wanted that look. For me, it was more effort than I thought, so I might try a 1.5 " barrel to see if there's a better outcome. I like the Hot Tools handle...it feels comfortable in my hand. I like the rheostatic control very much...a feature on higher end models. I like the ceramic coating and never smelled a burnt smell when curling. However, the stand on the barrel is placed in a location that is useless. The barrel is top heavy and flops on the surface you lay it on, so including a stand/rest was useless. For the money and effort, I think a slight smaller barrel would give me the round brush blow-out bend I'm looking for on my below shoulder length hair.

Comments about Hot Tools CeramicTI Tourmaline Curling Iron:

Finally got rid of my 80's inspired curling iron; looking to upgrade. I got a Revlon Pro Collection soft feel 1 1/4". First time with ceramic and I absolutely loved it. Easy and smooth to curl, lasting a long time. But, the 1 1/4" was a bit small. So I stepped up and got this highly recommended Hot Tools in 1 1/2". While I do love it, I find it doesn't hold the curl as long as the Revlon. Also, no auto shut off, which was a negative for me. But I'll still use for soft waves.

Love how this iron worked on my hair, was a little reluctant because of pricing but went during Ulta's hair sale and got it. It worked really well and took me half the time it normally does to curl my hair. It also left my hair feeling soft and not dried out, like other curling irons do. I would definitely recommend!

I have this curling iron from Hot Tools and the gold plated one. I've had this one for awhile now- super short and super long hair. No matter the length, it does not do what I want it to. I think this one may not get as hot. It's ok if you want your hair to fall and be like SUPER relaxed. I will curl my hair with this one and then before I walk out of the house, it has fell. The gold one does not.

                        • Q:

I have very fine, thin, color treated hair that has some heat damage. My hair is maybe two inches below my shoulders. I've had trouble finding a curling iron that will hold curl in my hair without completely frying it (I'm careful). I wanted to know if the tourmaline (purple) or the Nanoceramic curling iron would be better for my hair. Also, which size barrel should I get for large but defined curls?

                            A:

If you have fine, color treated hair you will want to use either the ceramic tourmaline (purple barrel) or Nano-ceramic (Black and White) because Ceramic can be gentler on the hair because they heat the hair follicle from the inside out rather than applying heat from the outside. Remember that heat is damaging to one's hair and you'll look to have the least amount of heat that still will curl/style the hair effectively. Try it first at < 300 degrees to see how effective it is at that temperature. We recommend based on your hair length that you try the 1" or even 1 1/4" to get large defined curls.

Do all (nanoceramic, ceramic tourmaline, and gold plated) curling irons have the same results of curls? I have thin, long, but not a lot of hair. Curls don't last on my hair, so I would like to buy one that has long lasting, but as well and smooth and shiny curls.

Honestly they do have the same results. All of it is dependent upon the temperature of the iron and the texture of your hair. We'd suggest using a hold spray to help the curls last on your hair. The gold curling irons are the industry standard and are in use by more stylists than any other curling irons. We suggest you start there unless your hair is damaged by heat or chemicals now, if which case we'd suggest you try the NanoCeramic curling irons.

The difference is that the white and black curling iron is NanoCeramic, which is just a finer grade of ceramic. Yes, replacement springs may be ordered directly from Hot Tools. Their contact info can be found within the product manual that comes with this curling iron.
