There's
a new trend taking the manes of Hollywood
A-listers to new heights lately: the topknot. It's been spotted everywhere from grocery stores to red carpets.
This isn't the back bun sported by ballerinas; it's a pile that sits up high, bestowing crowning glory on every head it graces. The look is Holly Golightly meets Grecian goddess. It can be interpreted many ways and worn for any occasion. The looser and messier it is, the more casual it looks; the tighter and neater the style, the more formal the effect. So, why all the rage? It's effortless chic-ness at its best. You can literally roll out of bed, skip a shower, pull your strands back and look like you just stepped out of the salon. Creating the classic topknot can be done in four simple steps:
1. Pull your hair back into a super-high ponytail and secure with an elastic band. Elle No-Crimp Ponytail Holder will do the trick. The best thing about these bands is they contain no metal, which means no snags or tangles. They come 12 per pack and are available in three shades: natural, dark brown and black.
2. Divide the ponytail into four sections. To give the bun more volume, you can curl each section using a curling iron. The Conair Infiniti Nano Tourmaline Ceramic Curling Iron is built with all the latest technology,
including the ability to emit ions, which eliminates frizz and protects
hair's natural luster. It also heats up in 30 seconds and maintains a
constant temperature, so perfect curls are mere minutes away.
3. Twist one section around the base of the ponytail and tuck end under the elastic. For a more formal effect, braid each section before wrapping it around the base. Repeat with each remaining section. Once you have a bun, secure with bobby pins. Karina Bobby Pins come in an assortment of styles and colors, from metallics to zebra prints. Each package comes with 20 pins (and depending on the thickness of your hair, you may need that many!).
4. Finally, mist with hairspray to hold. ULTA Ultimate Finish Finishing Holding Hair Spritz uses natural extracts and vitamins to strengthen hair while shine enhancers add a glossy finish, all while setting your strands for hours. For all-over hold, spray 10 to 12 inches away from your hair.
