You Glow, Girl!

Illuminate your complexion by adding a bit of shimmer to your makeup routine

The most obvious sign of a fresh, young-looking complexion is to have a glow about you. However, contrary to popular belief, you do not necessarily have to be in love or be pregnant in order to attain this glow. You can easily illuminate your face with just the flick of a makeup brush or the quick application of a shimmery lotion.

Kat Connelly, E! News makeup artist, says makeup options with illuminating abilities are great for day or night. "During the day, it's great when you want that sort of sun-kissed look. At nighttime, it's beautiful—you get more depth and definition in darker settings."

Just a Dab Will Do Ya
Connelly likes Smashbox Artificial Light Luminizing Lotion. "That stuff's great. It has multiple colors so you can match to skin tone and it blends smoothly."

To use a luminizing lotion, Connelly says to apply it after your foundation. "Give yourself a soft smile and take a sponge or use your fingers and dab it along the top of your cheekbones."

Also try Benefit Cosmetics Girl Meets Pearl, a luminizing liquid that you can pat on over makeup, or wear alone if you just want a subtle, fresh look.

Hint: On those mornings when you realize too late you should have gone to bed much earlier, dab this on under your eyes to hide dark circles.

Sweep It On
You can lightly brush an illuminating powder over your entire face, such as bareMinerals Illuminating Mineral Veil. It touts light-refracting pearls that will give your complexion an all-over radiant glow.

Connelly recommends using a big, fluffy brush to apply the powder so as not to overload the face with too much shimmer, which can make it appear oily instead of glowing. "If you get too much product," she says, "you can just dab it away."

To add a bit of color in addition to a glow, try Smashbox Soft Lights, which comes in both "Shimmer" and "Prism," two slightly varied pink shades. These silky powders do double duty, as you can also sweep onto eyelids for a subtle eye shadow.
